Retail is an exciting career choice with loads of possibilities – from helping customers, product displays, marketing, running a store, to management at head office. Warehouse

Red Shirts in Schools is a gateway programme that gives students a chance to get valuable work experience in retail and help make the move from school into a career.

Students will gain a ServiceIQ Customer Service Award as well as credits that can be used towards the nationally recognised qualification National Certificate in Retail (Level 2). They’ll be supported all the way and learn important skills in line with industry standards including: effective communication; personal presentation; product knowledge and teamwork.

How it works

Students will receive a placement with The Warehouse and will be fully supported by a dedicated coordinator who works with store management to make sure they get an all-round understanding of the world of retail. Students will also receive customised learning resources, clear development plans and their work will be assessed by the coordinator who also keeps their school up to date with progress.

This successful programme is a partnership between ServiceIQ and The Warehouse. T

Career Programme Details

The programme involves 10 days’ work experience over 10 weeks and runs nationwide. It costs $455 + GST per student and results in a Customer Service Award certificate. (However free to students doing Gateway)  The certificate is made up of a set menu of credits (see below) which can be used towards the National Certificate in Retail (Level 2). As part of The Warehouse Red Shirts in Schools package each student will receive: 
  • A 10 week work placement with The Warehouse 
  • Customized learning resources 
  • Assessment and support through a dedicated coordinator

  • 62 Maintain personal presentation and a positive attitude in a workplace involving customer contact
  • 11971 Use safe work practices in a retail or distribution environment
  • 11941 Establish and maintain positive customer service interactions 
  • 11974 Participate in a team in a retail or distribution environment
  • 11968 Demonstrate and integrate knowledge of legislation applicable to sale of goods and services 
  • 19583 Demonstrate knowledge of products in a retail or distribution environment
  • 57 Provide customer service
  • 376 Employ customer service techniques to accommodate customer behavioural styles in a workplace
  • 11938 Assist customers to select goods and/or services face to face
