Youth Development Programme

Youthline Wellington has been running a Youth Development Programme (YDP) since 2011.

Our current Youth Development Programme partners with schools in Wellington City, Porirua, and Hutt Valley to offer self awareness, self management, communication and interpersonal skills to gateway students wanting to continue on into Social Work, the Police Force, the Medical Field or Youth Work.

The programme is aimed at year 13 gateway students, and runs in terms 2 and 3. The programme is facilitated by local youth workers, social workers and counselors and participants gain 13, level 3 credits that can contribute towards their attainment of NCEA Level 3.

If interested in doing this course please contact Ms Allen or Ms Caseley in Careers

Here's what people have said about their experiences in our YDP:

“Through YDP I have been able to learn about so many issues that affect me but are often unspoken of by our society because they are ‘uncomfortable’ or ‘controversial’ such as: peer pressure, healthy/ unhealthy relationships, self-image, etc.  YDP is a great programme as it has given me the opportunity to talk about these topics and state my opinions in a safe and non-judgemental environment.  There aren’t many places where an individual teens voice is heard and listened to which is why YDP is so special”

“It has helped me gain friends and other relationships which have opened my eyes to a different world I thought could not exist”

“Communicating with people was easier, lots of good active games”

"Really awesome I enjoyed each week!! :) Awesome leaders and fun"

"Meeting new people, great food, great experience in relation to Youthline, cool leaders, great environment to share ideas in, it's an honour to have been part of this course"
